Training Manual: How to Pronounce Fashion Designers’ Names

Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi & Madonna – sometimes fancy fashion designer names are a challenge to pronounce.  We’ve all been guilty of designer name mutilation a time or two, and as penance, we’ve gathered a list of famous brands and designers, along with their proper phonetic spellings.

  • Note to readers: All this is in English pronounciation, not in their original language. Hence, this list should only be a reference for English conversations. For example, yay-ger-le-koot would sound completely wrong to the Swiss, who would correct you as jshe-jshe-le-kut-tra.

    Coccinelle: KOH-chee-nel-li?? It’s French for “ladybug” and is pronounced kok-si-NELL. You are probably confusing it with Italian “Coccinelle” (plural of “coccinella”), pronounced kawt-she-Nel-leh.
